  • SLS Hotel Miami Beach Duck Sculpture
We developed a 3D model in collaboration with Starck for the SLS Hotels famous giant silver duck sculpture. We produced a 3D print at 4" tall to create an iconic gift for hotel patrons. The 3D print was then replicated by one of our manufacturers in order to fulfill larger orders. The 10'-0" sculpture is made of Fibre-Reinforced Plastic, and an aluminum structure. The duck sculpture is situated on the pool deck watching over the pool as the cabanas make for a private hideaway. The hotel has three restaurants that are well-known around the world: The Bazaar, Hyde Beach and Katsuya.

  • Hot Wire Table (Robotic Arm Fabrication)
The focus was on the exploration of alternative uses in robotic arm machining. The research is framed around a single machining that was presented at the end of the eight week session. We engaged with the robotic arm as a design machine, used as another tool within a collection of other digital and physical tools. The objective is to create a custom fixture (1) that will attach to the robot, a material assembly (2) upon/with which the robot will operate, and the operation itself (3).

I would like to thank Diego Matho, Director of Design Computing at the Boston Architectural College, and the Edco Grant committee for their support in making this possible. I would also like to thank our sponsors at Industrial Robotix, Mastercam, and Robotmaster for their support and enthusiasm.

Nature is decisively seen as separate from human. Most earlier ideas of nature had included, in an integral way, ideas of human nature. But now nature, increasingly, is ‘out there’, and it’s natural to reshape it to a dominant need, without having to consider very deeply what this reshaping might do to the human and nature.

In our complex dealings with the physical world, we find it very difficult to recognize all the products of our own activities. We recognize some of the products, and call other by-products; but slagheap is as real a product as the coal, just as the river stinking with sewage and detergent is as much our product as the reservoir. The enclosed and fertile land is our product, but so are the waste moors from which the poor cultivators were cleared, to leave what can be seen as an empty nature.

Capitalism, of course, has relied on the terms of domination and exploitation; imperialism, in conquest, has similarly seen both men and physical products as raw material. But it is a measure of how far we have to go that socialists also still talk of the conquest of nature, which in any real terms will always include the conquest, the domination or the exploitation of some men by others. If we alienate the living processes of which we are a part, we end, though unequally, by alienating ourselves.

  • Boat House
This boat house is for the primary use of the public. It should not stand as a monument to boat storage, but to accommodate those who watch the boats in action. I am trying to create the maximum seating and viewing areas of the water, while tucking the boat storage away. The experience of the site should not be impeded upon by storage of these boats, but to provide the maximum amount of green space to the people.

  • Modular Miami Hotel Competition
Moho is a new concept in the long-standing tradition of world-class Miami hotel design. Its dynamic form expresses the grand sense of luxury and theatricality that popularized Miami hotels in a kit-of-parts assembly that efficiently responds to contextual, programmatic and environmental variables. In this way, the ability to adapt and respond—to cater to each guest—is articulated as its primary function.

  • Sustainable Transport Center
From the beginning our team has discussed the importance of aiming to achieve not only and sustainable transportation center withing a unique city but to create a unique urban experience within an urban setting. Inclusion is our approach to sustainability. We sought to bring together members of the city around a sustainable hub, were they can experience the future potential of the electric plug-in city-cars and interact within spaces adjacent to a headquarter for research in green technologies.

The site is situated adjacent to two historical districts - Chinatown and the eather District. The asian people utilize the public fountain just north of he site, by putting their feet into the the faux stream lled black river stones. The leather district still has light poles that are wooden. The form is still used today, these poles often go unnoticed, until one begins to investigate the materiality of its form. There are two adjacent built forms - the Ginza Restaurant (japanese food cooked by chinese people) and a vent stack which I am assuming is for the interstate below the site. Surface street just to the east of the site is a busy intersection one way road. I am trying to build a street wall that will dene the road and terminate the greenway park. The usage of the park just west of the vent stack and adjacent to the site is often lled with children and adults playing chinese chess. I want to preserve and expand upon the usage of the site. Providing outdoor theatre space and more permanant seating utilizing my tectonic.
